A new rule has been created

I have decided that no one in GenX is allowed to use their powers until and unless they can be adequately explained in a Powerpoint.

If I'm going to spend forty minutes coaxing my sons from behind a refrigerator because the vacuum cleaner came to life and went on an unmanned rampage I'm owed something more than "I just make weird things happen." 

Billy Kaplan, you may expect their therapy bill.

It is okay Sharon. Accidents happen. It must have been distressing for one of your sons, and I am very glad they are okay. Sometimes powers get a little wonky and go a complete 180 than what we expected it too. I've been through more powers oppies in my life than I can count on my fingers.

It's a matter of common courtesy. If my powers malfunction I only fail to change shape, and this is known to all. Too many residents here are allowed to run around with ill-defined powers the rest of us can't possibly anticipate. The entire field of psionics, for example.

Some of you are trained, and this is as it should be. However, until Billy Kaplan adequately categorizes his powers to me, I will consider any inexplicable phenomena to be his doing by default.

We cannot anticipate every single thing that could go wrong in a mansion that is a home to many individuals who have a range of power sets.

We've all been untrained and this place is a good place to learn how to get a better control over our powers. I rather accidents happen here, in a safe environment where many of us understand that accidents can happen, then out in the world where not everyone would be so understanding.

It seems reasonable to be informed if I can expect my bag of crunchies to scream and flee when I broke the seal. Even if I enjoyed that one.

Then again, maybe it's different for the rest of you. I've never needed a day of training in my life.

Yet, it is unreasonable to tell someone they can't use their powers, even for training, before they can explain it. Sometimes it is hard to explain. Like how do you turn into a cat? Does it require concentration? How did you know you could turn into a cat? It started somewhere.

But, if you are interested in learning a bit more about magic, I can show you my notes I have taken over the years. It is a start.

How did I know I could turn into a cat? An interesting question. How did you know you could breathe air? For me, these questions are equivalent. I've heard learning to use a mutation can be difficult -- can't relate.

I'm still not convinced "magic" is real. More likely it's some kind of coping mechanism people use to access their powers.

Maybe I will look at your notes. Many things in this world would make better sense if subjected to rigorous peer-review.
